Why Power & Speed Training?
Soccer players have one of the most challenging sports to prepare for. The speed and power training will help you improve in the following areas.
Speed - Players need to access top speed 8 % of the time
Agility - In a given game players will make up to 1000 or more cuts
Quickness- Explosive moves off the ball
Endurance - Players typically cover 8-10 km a match depending on the age.
Core- All players MUST have a stable platform to be able to execute in the game
As athletes progress on speed development, learning proper running form is key. Running drills will be easy to difficult, slow to fast and simple to complex. These progressions allow the athlete to achieve speed without an injury. Ladder drills help the athletes hone the agility demand of soccer. Stopping fast and starting fast are also considerations when planning the training programs for our athletes. Hurdle hops, cone hops and quick leg drills are being done to address the explosive part of their game.

"Last week I was able to give a larger volume of work to the older teams. I was very pleased with how they handled the work. The technique drills your athletes are practicing take time to master. As they improve, so will their speed. As we all know, speed wins! That being said, speed is an integral part of any soccer program, but rarely implemented. I am very proud to be a part of Atletico's training staff!"
